Heinz funds Bush bid for re-election

Washington Times

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Though Sen. John Kerry's wife is an heir to the H.J. Heinz Co. fortune, the food company and its executives are providing President Bush with money and a campaign issue . . .

Members of the board of the Fortune 500 company and its corporate political action committee have donated thousands of dollars to Republicans in recent years, including contributions to the Bush campaign. The corporate PAC has given nothing to Mr. Kerry . . .

While Teresa Heinz Kerry gained much of her $500 million portfolio through her Heinz inheritance, she does not serve on the board and is not involved with the management of the company. Even her late husband, Sen. H. John Heinz III, Pennsylvania Republican, did not serve on the board . . .

Mrs. Kerry, who heads the separate Heinz Family Foundation and the Howard Heinz Endowment, owns less than 4 percent of the company's stock.

A look at the company's campaign donations shows a preference for Republicans. In the past six years, the Heinz company's political action committee gave more than $64,000 to Republican candidates, nearly three times the amount given to Democrats. It contributed $5,000 to Mr. Bush's campaign. It has shunned the Kerry campaign . . .

From what I understand she used to be a hardcore conservative until she realised that Republican legislators were slashing benifits for US war veterans. She then
'switched' over.

Didn't she switch when she married Kerry?

I think the marriage was part of the package deal. Don't worry though, as soon as Kerry 'switches' she'll have to find a new man.

So, we now descend to name calling for canidate comparison nowadays?

Using your logic, I suppose American slang for "liberal socialist" = Kerry.
As far as i've seen, Bush has shown more signs of intelligence than Kerry.

Time for a new pair of glasses surely.

$5000 isn't a whole lot so it can hardly be seen as a sign of political bias. Heinz probabley regard it as insurance against boycott by the fruitcake brigade.

Yeah, 5000 dollars is kind of a little joke and really means nothing.
How many cases of the red stuff is that?

u have to understand that campaign contributions arent always mega-millions.

ENRON was Bush's #1 campaign contributor in 2000 with only $500,000.

even tho $500,000 is alot more than $5,000, that kinda shows u the scope of campaign donations isnt that large..

the point is, for all the stink Republicans are making about the Heinz fortune blah blah blah, $5,000 is DEFINETELY more than the big bad goose egg theyve donated to Kerry.

besides, u failed to notice this:
