This is definitely the kind of real life on main street news that makes a big difference in how people vote:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/29/business...ner=rssuserland

and it is VERY BAD news for George W. Bush.
Huey_P

Republicans are obviously ignoring this one cuz it doesnt fit their "the economy is in GREAT shape!" fantasy.

Don't know where you Raving Moonbats get your IRS data but check out the difinitive word here...
RICH GET POORER, MIDDLE CLASS GETS RICHER? Those are the Bush economic results, according to EconoPundit Steven Antler and data from the IRS.
Of course, that's not quite how the New York Times reports it. wink.gif (thanks to instapundit)

You do not matter the George W Bush and the republican party. Yet, they still want your vote. Do not be fooled.

Neither am I but I sure got a good one! That extra $1000 I received from child tax credits sure came in handy over the last 2 years.
That's the thing, tax breaks/cuts/credits are all relative.

$1000 wouldn't be a big thing to people making a ton of money, but for people like me, that's more than half my mothly income (isn't that sad! sad.gif )

I just don't get the mentality that some people in this country have to be punished, because they have more than others.

The way I see it the more you have monetarily, the more you have to lose. I'd rather be dirt poor and have a healthy son, then be say, Eric Clapton and have all the money in the world, and a dead son.

If the biggest thing I have to worry about is being behind on a few bills now and then, I'll take it.

It's a class warefare thing Cleo. I remember some years ago an article at the Cato Institute that dealt with the types of people who are productive economically and those who pursue intellectual paths that do not offer monetary rewards.

Usually those who consider themselves elites, go for teaching, professorships, journalism, and such. And those who usually don't necessarily fare best in school, go out and hustle in sales, their own businesses, etc. And the elites, who naturally believe themselves superior to little Johnny, who hustled out and made his millions, wish to punish them for acquiring greater wealth.

It just isn't fair to their highly intelligent, but at the same time twisted, mentality. Thaiquila is obviously one of these "so called" elites. I wonder if he ever found a job? cool.gif

I have a Dad who makes a lot of money, has a big house and a nice car, ect. I also have a mom who makes little money, and has no health care. When I'm with my dad I see how greedy he is and it drives me nuts. He even rips my mom off by not paying her the amount of money you pay a Florida child in child support(my sis), he says they were divorced in AR. so he should only have to pay her the amount required there. But thats not true, he's just to cheap to cough up $500! My mom is also way to giving though and lets people walk all over her it seems like. Now I'm not saying the gov. needs to make rich people dish out there $ to the poor. I think they need to make health care cheaper. I don't like Bush for several reasons, but the main 3 reasons are: # 1 the unemployment rate is ridiculous, #2 our environment is being polluted way more than it has to be, and # 3 I think Bush is all about himself and is cheating the gov. out of $ to save a few bucks. Do you really agree w/ the off shore taxation going on?? Thats money that could be keeping us from furthering ourselves in debt. Doesn't the fact that he turned a $ 236 billion surplus in to a $ 500 billion deficit scare you? I have a question: If you were able to choose a different republican for president, would you? Be totally honest. huh.gif

If Kerry is elected, it will be interesting to see if he makes a difference. When he does not, it will be interesting if those wanting Bush gone will take up the defense of Kerry.
1. The economy is cyclic, so even if things are better, did he make the difference, or is he at fault?
2. The pollution of the environment is relative, to what. To China, To Mexico, To India? What camelot do you want to compare the US to that is doing so much better.
3. Bush cheating the government, and being about himself? If there is ever a person in recent memory who is about himself it is John F Kerry. My God, look at the women he has married. Is that an accident, or about being about yourself.

I agree that more could be done about getting around taxes. It is wrong that the focus is on income only. People can be enormously wealthy, but technically have small income, and pay little tax. And corporations which are making decisions on profits at the expense of sending work abroad, should be penalized.

I am not wealthy so I never got a tax cut.

Let's think this through.
Question 1: Did you work at a job where taxes were actually taken out of your check?
Question 2: If so, did you file your taxes so as to receive any income tax returns?
Question 3: If all of this is the case, did you actually paid any taxes on your income? (Social Security doesn't count by the way)

I am a college student and not making much money throughout the year. Since I make so little money, when tax returns roll around, what money was taken out of my checks throughout the year was returned to me. In other words, I didn't pay any income tax and therefore had 0 potential for receiving a tax CUT.

That would be like receiving a pay cut at McDonald's. I don't even work there.

You really need to get out more. Have you ever traveled to a third world country? Have you ever looked into what the unemployment rates around the world are? Do you realize that in some cities in China, Americans must walk around with filtration masks on because our "delicate" lungs (due to our relatively clean air) can't stand the polution.
I could take pages and pages of source material, quotes, etc to try to educate you but I'd rather not insult the intelligence of most other readers by pointing out the blatant facts. Allow me rather to make a couple practical assertions.

#1) An unemployment rate which hovers around 5% is in no way "ridiculous" but rather an indication of an extremely prosperous economy.
#2) I certainly do not agree with everything that President Bush has done. Fiscally speaking, he has only gotten it half right. It is/was the right thing to do to cut taxes and stop robbing those who work hard enough to prosper. However, taking less of money from hard-working Americans is only half the problem. Cutting spending is the other half. My guess is that is a job that a future great President will have to do. Unfortunately, I don't see such a president coming out of the Democratic Party any time soon.

123, just because your father is a Pr!ck, who happens to have more than his share of wealth, does this mean that every person with wealth is also a Pr!ck? That is no excuse, and does not bode well for your ability to think logically. It is great for your subjective responses. However, it usually works quite well in we humans. It is primal in nature. Logical thinking, however, is not primal. It is acquired and needs to be exercised properly to take presidence over the other.

First, the unemployment rate is a result of the economy. In case you haven't been paying attention, we recently came out of a recession, AND an attack on this country which caused a hit on the economy of countless Billions of dollars. I don't know the exact figure, but it was in the hundreds(billions) here. At this point, the last I checked, unemployment was around 5.6%, which is almost a full point lower than it was for Clinton during the 1996 election.

Second, I contend that he has done nothing detrimental to our environment. The environment is getting better all the time. So, here you need to be specific. And using the Kyoto Protocall as a reason does not cut it. The US Senate overwhelmingly voted against it. And only a fool would sign it anyway. Are you willing to place your head in the European guillotine here?

Third, how is he cheating the government? He isn't even starving it, which is what I would love to see. He has poured money into it hand and fist. And this is my main complaint with him. He has simply wasted Billions in helping to create more beaurocracy. This spending spree that he has done has got to spot!

As for your other gratitous assertions, you are just throwing them out in order to see if any stick. They don't. I suggest that you take them one by one and back them up with what you consider to be facts. Then we can take them one by one in a logical, not emotional manner. smile.gif

One thing is clear here. You are in serious need of an education in economics, micro as well as macro economics. Stick with me, and I will help you out, with good, well founded links, ok?
