Oh dear, Huey....that is indeed a record! Compact Disc is just the device from which to play whatever is on the record on a compatible appliance.
Record takes it's name from reCORD....stress on CORD instead of RE. Any recording is a record of that recording. From that we get vinyls, CDs etc.
Music artists always refer to their work as records, which you then purchase on whatever playing device you choose. They don't say, I made a new CD. However, marketing will advertise a new CD being out because they made the record onto a CD and the artist might say my new CD is out. But it's still a recording and therefore a record.
