MEDEA, Algeria, 24 October 2004 — Suspected Algerian Muslim militants killed 16 people in the first attack on civilians since the start of the holy month of Ramadan, officials said yesterday. The victims, mostly young people, were shot dead, burned or had their throats cut at a rebel roadblock on Friday evening near the city of Medea, some 70 km south of Algiers, a civil defense officer told Reuters.

Local residents also said 13 people were reported missing and feared they had been kidnapped by the rebels. Some also said the number of dead was most likely 17. “I called my friend to find out if he had been caught in the attack. Someone else answered the phone and told me ‘come retrieve your dogs’,” a local resident, who asked not to be named, told Reuters. The victims have been transferred to a hospital in Medea.

Wow, and the Americans are not involved ?
While western involvement in the Middle East seems to evoke some emotions, this shows just another case where the ME is the ME no matter how many Americans invade it.

The ME was, is and will be a blood field; even after all western involvement disappears.

You are writing about Algeria and Middle East, but Algeria is not located there.... Algeria is a country in North Africa, south of France and Spain. Far away from Iraq.

Don't bother, Yohan.
At least he should have looked at a map before posting... wink.gif smile.gif

Yohan, thanks for the education.
I'm well aware of the world map and although it might have been a poor choice of terms, the idea still remains.

Algeria is not geographically in the ME but the ME is not just a geographical term.

To be precise, I should have said the ME and North Africa.

OK?

Bluecat, ...mmm...forget it.

Of course, OK. Middle East and North Africa. I think, this is a good definition.

It has nothing really to do with the location itself....It has nothing to do with the United States....

Whereever are radical Arab teachings in this world, controversial issues are coming up soon, even in Islamic countries....

Everywhere in this world such people are not known for being tolerant, honest or respectful towards other people. They never look for any peaceful solution of any problem. The only what they know is violence.
