Haven't heard too much discussed in here over this topic. Will the military base closings hinder or help our present or future conflicts? Will the job loss harm certain lawmakers, when it comes to getting re-elected in their respective communities?

It may harm them. That doesn't mean what they did was wrong. The last institution we need becoming a welfare program is our military. (I'm sure it already is in some ways). At least the military is getting rid of some of it's wasteful, or unnecessary, spending. I doubt the military would choose to close bases if it would severely hurt our readiness.

The private sector doesn't keep buildings open that are unnecessary. I think the military is right to try and follow suit.

I don't understand the big deal. Democrats want us to decrease military spending and then complain when we do??

What is surprising about that? The Democratic Party is reactionary. Almost 100% of the time they will oppose anything the GOP supports simply because the GOP supports it.

I can pretty much turn the tables and say the same thing, too! laugh.gif

Except that the Republican party CANT be reactionary, because they are the ones proposing policy in the first place.

Fine. Than they should quit asking the Democrats to propose a plan for Social Security and see if they can get the publics support with theirs! tongue.gif
