This is an interesting article from Dick Morris, that shows the attraction of citizens actually wishing for a choice of retirement programs with regards to Social Security. It appears that most Americans really DO like the idea of being the ultimate artitor of their own retirement future.
This is particularly encouraging to those who want to change the Social Security program and privatize it. And while I don't completely agree With Morris about the President not making any headway(the fact that over 50% favour choice backs me up), I do concur that he could do a better job of presenting his side of the arguement.
And this is why Mr. Morris's idea of choosing the amount of funds(privatized it would really not be taxes as he states, but private investment) to go into the individual accounts.
And here is where the Democrats are again on the wrong side of history, and I suspect that they are aware of it and have no way out of their perdicament short of capitulation. Only the most rabid Collectivist would disagree here( Thaiquila are you listening), as the ultimate issue is that of one's liberty/right to choose. All they can hope to do is forestall the eventual outcome.
And here is where they are doing themselves terrible harm. The longer this plays out, the more the voting public will tie the Democrats to their obstruction. And public opinions are hard to turn around once they have solidified. Just ask domestic auto manufacters and public opinion on quality.
This article and the Rasmussin Poll is very encouraging, and I suspect that some major change in Social Security will be occurring sooner rather than later.
