Here's an excellent article on how MSM in America has lost any concept to loyalty to its country - The Riots of the Faithful

Impossible to summarize; just go and read of it, 'cause it's good.

Thanks to LGF

Yeah, Uncle Orson is perhaps one of the few truely sane Democrats left out there who makes any sense. I enjoy reading his articles, along with the ones by Ben Bova as well. popcorn.gif

QUOTE (Orson Scott Card)
...1. The courts have given the news media carte blanche, in the name of the First Amendment -- but the media are no better than government at exercising unchecked power. When it's known that no one can punish you, a certain kind of person stops caring whether he hurts anybody. And such people tend to rise within any organization that doesn't work hard to have a conscience...

Also:

QUOTE (Mr. Card)
...So Newsweek kills people with a false story that is actually a lie (unlike anything President Bush ever said about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction), and nothing happens to the perpetrators...

Oh really! The audacity that this author has on downplaying WMDS simply astounds me! blink.gif

He is suggesting there is a difference between a leader of a free world and a well known media outlet not checking its sources? rolleyes.gif The final decision never harmed anybody, huh! (Mr. Bush is not shaking too much with all of those Republicans in Congress! I can hear the Republicans now: "Oh boy! Somebody else from Smartland disagreeing with us. What right does that person have?")

Well, moving on to our next bit of amusement:

QUOTE ( Mr. Card)
...2. Too many people in the "American" media have lost any concept of loyalty to their country -- if they even consider it their country, rather than just their residence...

...Our country is at war. And it's a war in which victory absolutely depends on the Muslim world perceiving it as a war between the U.S and its allies on one side, and fanatical murderous terrorists on the other.

If it is ever perceived as a war against Islam, then we have lost. The world has lost.

So during such a difficult time, even people who think the Iraq War or even the whole war on terror is a horrible mistake still have an obligation of loyalty to the nation that offers them protection, prosperity, and freedom...
(Loyalty to a nation or a President that a certain party represents?) rolleyes.gif

There you have it -- all of you students of journalism. Mr. Card has conveniently explained the new way that reporting is to be done! Two wrongs do equal a right, after all! Sway from this course and be disciplined!!!! 014.gif
QUOTE ( Constitution)
Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
(I hope that nobody ever tries to burn that!)

QUOTE ( Mr. Card)
...3. Muslims in Muslim countries can dish it out, but they can't take it...

You're right, Mr. Card! Shame on all of those Muslims that can't find humor in all of that torture in Abu Ghraib!

Why, I will bet you that all of those underlings in the military had nothing better to do one day and said, "Hey everyone! Lets go torture all of those war prisoners, and get thrown into the stockade!"(I wonder how much lava soap that Rummy had to use to wash the dirt from his hands on that day?)

QUOTE ( Mr. Card)
...5. A house divided against itself cannot stand...

Yeah, you tell us about that Mr. Card.

I can see that we will eventually be going down that same road as the people in the Middle East -- the way that some groups constantly tries to interfuse their faith into our government!

(Hint! Hint!)

QUOTE ( Constitution)

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Grizzly, does this possibly mean that you will not be reading any of his prize winning science fiction in the forseeable future? After all, obviously a "useful idiot" of the Right would be incapable of writing anything entertaining and intelligent?

BTY, I like the avatar far better than a smiling "female" Brown. The Jackass part is more appropriate, and makes for a better target.

laugh.gif laugh.gif Why thank you, John. But nothing about the signatures? Its just my continuing effort to turn you into a nice Democrat. It will take some work, but we will do it! wink.gif
