I dunno, It's a pretty heady charge to claim that John Kerry doesn't deserve his war medals. The US Department of the Navy obviously disagrees with them.

I never saw any evidence behind their claims besides what they said on TV though.

Not only did he not earn his medals he is still not disclosing his military records to the public because they probably reveal a less than honorable discharge from the navy.
Remember he made unofficial 2 trips to Paris and met with North Vietnamese officials while still wearing his navy uniform.
He also was a co-founder of VNAW, an organization which rallied and marched behind the north vietnamese flag.
For these and other reasons many suspect his discharge from the Navy was less than honorable.
He has been very coy about his navy records. There is evidence to strongly suspect he has reason to withhold those records.
It really is a wonder he hasn't been tried for his treasonous behavior!

The United States Department of the Navy possesses his records, they saw fit to give him his medals and have not seen fit to remove them.

The awarding of his purple hearts was based on after action reports written by himself. The Navy doesnt have any other knowledge of the incidents. No other evidence exists except for eyewitness accounts. The majority of those eyewitness accounts dispute his recollection of the events. Whether kerry deserves his medals is an opinion.
Most of that guys book and what the swift boat vets have said, is criticism for his actions in the 70s after he left Vietnam. Nothing has refuted those charges.
His records would explain why he didnt recieve a discharge until 1978 when he was discharged early from active duty in 1970? Many veterans were dis honorably discharged during the war for desertion, AWOL, violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, etc., who were then given honorable discharges in 1978 under Carters Amnesty program. The most likely explanation until Kerry provides one. MARK
