Another democrat senator nut job going at it.
It will be fun to watch as he does down in flames popcorn.gif laugh.gif

This kind of short sightedness and distortion of history is baffling! rolleyes.gif

After reading Durbin's speech I do not see anything wrong with it; he was quoting from the FBI agent's report, and it did not mention servicemen being directly involved! 019.gif
Gop 4 life!

I want him to resign and leave the country.

How should we treat them? This is not a new question. We are not writing on a blank slate. We have entered into treaties over the years, saying this is how we will treat wartime detainees. The United States has ratified these treaties. They are the law of the land as much as any statute we passed. They have served our country well in past wars. We have held ourselves to be a civilized country, willing to play by the rules, even in time of war.

Nobody is asking to give them daily rubdowns. But there *are* standards in place. Whats the big deal about sticking to the standards?

Heard that on Al Jeezera's web site, the story on Durbins remarks were the # 1 most emailed story. He did apologize yesterday. Even managed some crocodile tears for the camera. MARK

Nothing wrong with the comparison's with nazi germany and soviet gulags!!!!

Excuse me there is nothing to compare.

Has anyone been killed at Guantanamo?

Compared to the millions murdered by Hilter and Stalin. How can there possibly be a comparison?
dixon76710
Illegal combatants can be summarily executed under the Geneva convention. If that doesnt violate international standards I dont see how chaining a guy to the floor would. MARK

When America abuses its war prisoners, it then has no moral weight to complain when American war prisoners are abused.
America is putting itself up as a model of moral civilization.
It is failing.

Abuses them how again?

Oh yeah, there have been 0 deaths at Gitmo, and the evidence for 'prisoner abuse' there is extremely weak.

The one time confirmed prisoner abuse did happen, at Abu Ghraib, it has been followed by severe court martials, either having already happened or pending.

Somehow I doubt the insurgency punishes those who cut off civilian's heads in the same way.

They can be held indefinitely. For the rest of their lives with NO CHARGE.
If they are guilty of a crime, CHARGE THEM, and try to get a conviction in court.
Are these the American values our young soldiers are dying for?
Disgusting.

I don't know if i had the choice between being decapitated and being forced to listen to Christina Aguilara I'd might just choose decapitation!
What we are doing to those poor non-combatants in Guantanamo is simply appalling or Appealling (at least that was the choice my "spell checker" gave me)

In WWII when an illegal combatant (a fighter on the battlefield without military uniform or insignia) was captured. They were lined against a wall and shot. This was legal and well publisized and is still legal but not so often executed.

A soldier in uniform is not an illegal combatant and cannot legally be executed without charges and a trial. A civilian hostage is not a combatant at all.

Your comparison is not the same.

I can't believe the CIA is even talking to nincompoops like Durbin anyway.
We are actually showing enormous courtesy towards these a$$wipes and they turn and piss all over the US the first chance they get.

This why courses in asian/middleastern languages should be mandatory for americans now. We don't realize how they interpret kindness for weakness.
There was a day when we didn't coddle these pieces of excrement.
bob
This war in Iraq would be a "slam dunk" if our coaches weren't so soft!
Even though we are being tough it's simply not tough enough. IMHO.
Then again this could be just the right way: the moderate strong way!
We know for sure the Carter/Clinton program was an utter failure.
Peanuts and Arkansas bullshit might mix but they don't play in world politics.
I have to give Clinto a little credit though a few days late and many dollars short.
We should have intervened in Bosnia much earlier than we did. The UN takes much that blame even though the Clinton administration was completely spineless.

No abuses, huh?
Try again, apologists for American WAR CRIMES:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...L&feed=rss.news

Why did we do this?
It only comes back to bite us with abuse of Americans and the world hating us even more making us much LESS SECURE!

Perhaps you missed the part of the article that said "We are not making a judgment if torture or treatment under degrading conditions has taken place."

Abuses occur. ok so that's bad and a few hands got slapped.
Is forcing and illegal combatant (who should have been shot on the battlefield) to listen to Christina Aguilara on the same level as what happened to Dan Pearl or Nick Berg or Paul Johnson?
Even what these Saudi pigs do to the girls when the arrive in Bangkok!
While we have Aljazeera crying about a wrinkled quran at quantanamo these Saudi dirts bags behave in henious ways while in Thailand. You should know. Many Bars in Pattaya have just take to refusing to serve the creeps.
We have American news media making up negative press.
While you are so understanding of the terrorists you fail to see that it is that weakness of resolve which encourages them not our strong actions.
What they understand is being squashed like a bug. And that is what we need to do.
Squash these bugs.
They wont go away altogether but they are in the process of being isolated even further from the civilized world. Locked up in Syria and Saudi Arabia!
Watch and learn grasshopper!
Thaiquila
Arab people are not bugs.
This is typical of war time hysteria.
Dehumanizing the "enemy" is a time tested method of festering hate and turning nice young men into killers.
An effective method, but if you actually believe it, you are intellectually challenged.

Well, he also refered to the dirtbag arabs in Pattaya. Of course, you aren't going to judge Africans by the fellows who hang around Suk soi 3-5, are you?

Riiiiiiiight.

Hey... you don't have to ask the actual detainees about abuse:
QUOTE
A U.S. military policeman who was beaten by fellow MPs during a botched training drill at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, prison for detainees has sued the Pentagon for $15 million, alleging that the incident violated his constitutional rights.

Spc. Sean D. Baker, 38, was assaulted in January 2003 after he volunteered to wear an orange jumpsuit and portray an uncooperative detainee. Baker said the MPs, who were told that he was an unruly detainee who had assaulted an American sergeant, inflicted a beating that resulted in a traumatic brain injury.
