GOP to increase funding for vets

Senate Republicans intend to raise spending on veterans programs by $1.5 billion to make up for a shortage caused partly by the return of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, officials said yesterday.

It's not enough. The VA needs far more than 2 billion in additional funds because their facilities, which were already overcrowded, are now being flooded by veterans from these new wars.
Before leaving Houston 14 months ago, I visited the VA Hospital to see a friend of mine, who is a chaplain there. The eye clinic was making initial appointments six months in the future. I didn't bother to ask if you wait six months even if loss of vision is already your service-connected disability.
