Having lived in the states for 10 years, I was made very aware of the fact that for many intelligent people, there was no possibility of representation in Government. Many people not even voting for that reason.

The current and well intrenched system of what in practise is a single party with two right wings. Democrat and Republican

Most modern democracies employ a system of proportional representation ie. if 5% or more of the vote goes to a particular party such as the Green Party, ACT, Liberal Democrats or New Christian, then they have 5% representation in congress; if 16% vote for their party then they have 16% representation and so on. Examples are Holland, Sweden, New Zealand (where it was only recently introduced after quite a struggle against big business interests) and Germany where it was introduced after WW2 with the strong support of -yes- the USA, britain and France.

I am curious.

Do Americans realy believe their system is democratic even though there are only two nearly identical political parties apparently propped up by big business and if so why?

Is there a movment to introduce a more just and democratic system in the USA?

If so would someone be so kind as to give me their web site. Thanks.
