My favorite of the Repubs has been/is Fred Thompson. Especially since I've seen his unbending choice to NOT be bullied by those that try to do so, and his refusal to watch the polls in order to give his answers. Loved his response in the latest Republican debate to the bullying question about Global Warming.

Fred Thompson Making a Major Move in Iowa

“The liberals in Iowa look to The Des Moines Register for their endorsements -- and the conservatives look to Steve King.”

... That’s according to Sen. Fred Thompson’s Iowa Executive Director, Robert Haus, a self-proclaimed "fossil" of Iowa politics who has worked for candidates like Sen. Chuck Grassley, Bob Dole, and Steve Forbes.

Of course, Haus was referencing the endorsement Thompson recently picked up of popular conservative Iowa Congressman Steve King, and juxtaposing it with John McCain's endorsement by The Des Moines Register.

I talked to Haus while he was on the way to an event -- the fourth Thompson event of the day for him. Haus was understandably upbeat, especially considering David Yepsen's column about Thompson today.

Haus tells me Thompson has been received quite well:

“I think, just based on the reception we’ve seen in the last 24 hours, it’s been nothing short of spectacular."

“... It’s hoots and hollers and 'hell yeas' from the back of the room. It’s almost Revivalesque. It’s stuff we’re not used to in Iowa," says Haus.

He also tells me he's also surprised by the number of folks who are undecided, and the number of folks who are unhappy with the candidates they are currently supporting.

When asked to talk about organization, Haus is slightly less optimistic. Regarding whether or not Thompson will have organizers in all 99 counties, Haus says they are working hard every day to build an organization: “We’re going to build the ark until the rain starts," he quips.

He also notes that this year is unique, adding: “None of us have campaigned this hard over Christmas.” This is true. Most campaigns get a brief reprieval before the Cuacuses on say, January 17. This year, of course, the caucus is on January 3.

One thing is clear: Anyone watching Iowa had better not write Fred Thompson off just yet ...

I've soured on Thompson. He's a lazy campaigner. No fire in the belly. I ain't too pleased with none of these Republican wannabees. However Romney appears to be the most electable choice at this point. So my tentatve support leans toward him.

Now lets call Iowa........ I say.............

Romney and Edwards......................

Any other calls here???

Truth is, to me, they all put me sleep, being, in my humble opinion, not much more than leader-less sheep running Helter Skelter spooning out the robotic Focus group spin doctoring for the next poll and or wind shift tacking to give-em what they want, while appearing to mean it.

I am looking for someone who is positive and full of hope, not perfect, not slick willy articulate, nor illiterate. Someone whom I both agree and disagree with. Someone who is not a party pimp and who knows leadership is not doing what is the most popular, most convenient, and easiest and or ideologically appealing. But who will show me they willingly will take a path to do what is best for us all, both those they agree and disagree with, in a positive philosophy of hope for a better tomorrow.

Primarily, I want to feel that they know their duty is to us all whom they lead and whose lives, existence and future depends. I want to know they know that they will do what is best for us all, one and all, as Americans, in positivism, hope and unity with only an agenda to lead, not follow, or deflect their successes and failures in duty to us in some game of blame and shame.

I have yet to see such a person now running for President of this here United States.

It would appear that Thompson is still in the running............he came in third in Iowa tonight. biggrin.gif

He's not lazy. He just entered the race at the same historic time as every other election year. It was the sheeples that all ran out front and called him names because he entered at the same time, and he refuses to cave in to demands that he be different. IOW, he's not a poll chaser. Cheers! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

3rd won't cut it here. Fred is done. He entered the field with great expectations that he didn't live up to. He didn't have much cash to begin with but in Iowa pressing the flesh and diner breakfasts could have made up for that. He doesn't want the job. Would you hire someone like that???

Best thing about tonight is that Hillary got trounced. But a long way to go yet. And McPain stands to gain from ths in NH. Not that it matters ..........all our guys are milk toast, not a backbone between them.

"A chicken in every pot" and "tear down this wall"................................

I see no leadership on the horizon here. Guess we just have to play the dealt hand here......

So, you're saying only the one that came in first in Iowa counts??? What about NH and the rest of the states? Is it over when Iowa is over????

Third is saying he's still in the race, just as the other two are.

Disagree about his energy. He's just not someone to let others push him around, and I find that comforting. Of course, he wants the job. Why else continue? Why else continue to spend the $$ and money? Because he DOESN'T want the job? Hardly......especially for such an "old" man with NO energy.

And, using your reasoning no one but Huckerbee should continue to run. Doesn't make sense.
YOu're just reading/listening too much to MSM, Nomad.
Nomad
Oh please Solo........... MSM..... Me? You should know better 002.gif
Thompson finished a DISTANT third not just third. Virtually tied with McPain who blew off Iowa. Fred had all the free press at his hand when he formally announced but like I said he failed to capitalize on it once in the race. He doesn't want this job. The more I think about the Politico story the more it begins to make sense. Let Thompson gather a faithful 10-15% and then drop out and endorse McPain giving McPain an instant bounce at a crucial time. Trust me. Fred is in not for the wanting but for the rewards if the scheme works. Sadly this is what US politics has decended to.............................................

I think in the last 30 years (since there has been media hoopla about it) only two candidates that won Iowa have gone on to become President Jimmie and GW (probably the 2 most unpopular presidents in history). So this means nothing really.

I like Thompson as well. He seems like a straight shooter. His self-imposed term limit when he won the senate seat speaks volumes.

On this you and I agree, Boh. He'd make an excellent President, which I don't think is within reach, but V.P with Guilliani .......yes! Of course, I would also luv to see him win the national race and let the other glamorpusses wonder why.

Least I had the balls to make a call. As to Thompson, give it up Solo, just ain't gonna happen. Watched the Repub debate tonight and Fred was his same old lackluster self. Granted, the others score high on the lame scale as well. But they got more bucks than Freddy does. Course it's still wide open and maybe Fred is sandbagging here................ But I wouldn't count on that. There is another mechanism in play here. Fred does not want the job just the perks that come to those they help get the job. That's the reality here Solo.

I guess you did better than I in Mindreading 101. I failed it.

As for balls, I do believe that I've named Fred as my choice, as did iswhatis. ??

The question now is who will it be going forward. It looks like Hillary or Obama, against Huckabee, Romney, or McCain.
I somehow think it will not be Romney, although I find him the least offensive. McCain is the stright talk express, Huckabee should be called the fast talk express. McCain is a grandstander. I do not understand the NH, and Iowa voters.

How were the votes cast? Handwritten, machines?

You know whenever the Liberals lose, they claim voter fraud........that's been a large part of the Democrat machine since Tammany Hall. Remember the Republican pollsters came really close to predicting the vote in NH...........it was the Democratic vote that made a quick rebound from one direction to another........
SoloNav
Eeeoow! Looks like quite a few commentators agree with me about Fred AFTER last night's debate. popcorn.gif

Heard Hannity today to admonish conservatives to NOT let the MSM dictate who is the winner or WHO should be the winner, and WHO are the losers or who they would like for us to believe are the losers, while they promote the most LIBERAL of Republicans as the ones most likely to succeed.

Does brainwashing come to mind? Regarding the MSM, that is?
Nomad
Ain't no brainwashing here Solo. Sure Fred got in a couple of cute zingers. Don't get me wrong. I like Fred but he is not doing and saying what it takes to make the grade.

The way things are shaping up now no Repub will win the White House. We are at the beginning of a nasty recession that will be full apparent come November. Obambo, yes, Obambo will demogouge this to no end and win. Once inaugurated he will Carter it up and pave the way for the Repubs to take control again. Lets just hope Newt is still interested........................... 006.gif 006.gif 006.gif 008.gif 008.gif 008.gif

Sorry Solo, the song is over. And quite frankly I don't give a fk anymore. Ain't nobody on the Repubs side running worth sh!t. Looks like it is down to the angry old amnesty fart and Dash (sell out to the Red Chinese) Riprock. Lets just give it to the Dems for 4 years and let them fk it up. You know they will...........

I'm still hoping for VP for Fred...... I've heard that some are pushing Newt to put his hat in the ring.

God forgive us if Hil or Osmalama gets elected in ANY combo. Neither have the sense to come in out of the rain and both have alternative plans for U.S. than what has been.

Care to see a Madras on every street corner? Or, a socialist government? Those are the two choices with them as I see it.

Empty platitudes and lies.
