Full Version: New Yorker Obama Cartoon is SATIRE

All presidents are subject to all kinds of humor and satire in a free society.
Mature politicians know this. If they don't like it, don't watch Saturday Night Live.

It is ignorant and insulting for the Obama campaign (and even the McCain campaign) to attack the New Yorker magazine for their satirical cover. Shame on you! Get it together, you have a country to run. Grow up Barack Obama! You already look like a little boy. Please stop acting like one.

BTW, do not be surprised when I am very critical of Obama. He is a very flawed candidate. I think he was a very bad choice to lead the democratic party. Almost all of the other candidates would have been better. I don't like the idea of such a junior baby running the country. But he is still better than McCain, and the failed policies of the republican party. I do expect Obama to be elected and I do expect alot of what he will do will disappoint us greatly. I do not believe he is the great man he pretends to be.

For once I agree with most of what TQ writes. Good on you.

My question though is...doesn't it seem odd that only Muslims seem to have such a problem with cartoons?

I may be wrong, but I do not see what is funny about a magazine that is famous for much more than satire, putting such a cover on its magazine. Obama is a Christian, not a Muslim. His wife is not a terrorist. Would the McCain campaign have just laughed at a Baby-Killer McCain cartoon? No, the McCain campaign had the decency to condemn the not-funny cartoon.

You are wrong. Anyone familiar with the New Yorker understands their style. This cartoon fits in with their style. Probably too sophisticated for the masses. The audience was New Yorker readers, not Fox News watchers. New Yorker editors and readers are mostly very sophisticated liberals. You want them to dumb down their editorial policy? Why? The cover was entitled:

THE POLITICS OF FEAR

New Yorker Magazine is an icon, world-wide. About all I know about it is that Charles Addams (whose father sold a house to my grandfather, so that my father grew up in the original Addams Family house smile.gif ) and my father captioned Charlie's first cartoons - in Latin. I think they went to school with Jinx Falkenberg, also. Bad taste should know its bounds. Sophisticated people can send their clever stuff by subscription.

I can't relate to anyone who thinks what the New Yorker published was racist, or wrong. Grow up or don't read the New Yorker!
